Dekatsuyo: what is shown, and what is still unknown

Based on Chiifan’s Japanese character article, which checks the official anime and movie character pages. Translated on Oct 11, 2026.

“Dekatsuyo” is what people call a creature much bigger than Chiikawa and friends: in anime Ep. 331 it has a fluffy yellow mane, two horns, thin black limbs and a mouth full of teeth. The name is clearly in use, in anime episode titles and on the official shop, yet nowhere is it explained what Dekatsuyo is. That gap is exactly why so many fans talk about it. This page separates what is shown from what readers guess, without settling the mystery.

Where Dekatsuyo appears: the “Anoko” arc

Dekatsuyo’s time with Anoko, the big white one, was posted from Nov 2 to Dec 12, 2022, and two more posts followed in January 2026 (9 posts in all). They don’t seem to understand each other’s words, yet they chase, run and play together.

  • The reading page is in Japanese, but you only need to scroll: Nagano’s X posts are lined up from top to bottom in order, 10 per page, and the 「次のページ」 (Next page) button at the bottom takes you on.
  • New to Chiikawa? If you saw the movie, start with the Siren Arc; for a quick taste, try the Muchauman Arc (10 posts).

What is shown

The name is used officially, and some scenes are on screen. That much is confirmed.

Anime titles
Only two episodes have “Dekatsuyo” in the title: Ep. 330 (Mar 31, 2026) and Ep. 331 (Apr 3, 2026), both with Anoko.
What happens
Per Fuji TV’s episode notes, in Ep. 330 Dekatsuyo speaks to Anoko; in Ep. 331 the two flee from bugs together and become friends.
Look
In Ep. 331: a fluffy yellow mane, two horns, thin black limbs and a mouth full of teeth.
Official shop
The Chiikawa Market shop lists Dekatsuyo as its own character, separate from Anoko and from Momonga.
Anime character page
Not one of its 12 entries, so there is no voice credit.
With Momonga
In Ep. 27 「泳ごう/返せ」 (the second title means “give it back”), Dekatsuyo chases Momonga.

What has not been revealed

Most explanations of Dekatsuyo online are not from the work itself. As of autumn 2026, all of these are still open:

  • What Dekatsuyo is, and whether the name means one individual or a kind of creature.
  • How Dekatsuyo came to look this way, and how many there are.
  • What the mane means, and how “maned Dekatsuyo” differs from others.
  • What Dekatsuyo and Anoko are to each other.
  • The link with Momonga: the chase in Ep. 27 is shown, but what was to be given back, and what the two were before, is not.
  • Which book volume these posts are in.

The Momonga theory

The reading you meet most is that something once big and strong is now inside Momonga’s cute body: “borrowing” it, or the two having “swapped.” No official text says so.

  • Momonga’s official profile is two lines about acting cute and asking for things; Dekatsuyo is not mentioned.
  • It is a fun theory to read, but if you see it presented as fact, treat it with care: the scene exists, the answer has not been given.

“Maned Dekatsuyo” and “the Dekatsuyo tribe”: whose words?

Both are fan terms, not words used by the work or the anime site.

  • “Maned” (tategami) is how readers describe the one who spends time with Anoko.
  • “Dekatsuyo tribe” (でかつよ族) is a fan catch-all for big, strong creatures; who belongs in it differs from person to person.
