Chiikawa’s Gekokujo Arc: the online game, Rakko “Sensei,” and Hachiware’s training
Based on our Japanese story page and articles on Rakko and tobatsu; anime episodes checked on the official anime site (2026-10-01).

Chiikawa and Hachiware look up to Rakko, the tobatsu (monster hunting) expert they call “Sensei” (teacher). What is the Gekokujo Arc about? (no spoilers)
Chiikawa and Hachiware set out to become top rankers in the online game “Gekokujo.” Rakko, passing by, tries the game too. Outside it, the two look up to Rakko as “Sensei,” but inside the game their positions are flipped.
- When their game ranking jumps, Rakko offers them training at the celebration. Learning that Chiikawa has the weeding exam coming up, Rakko suggests Chiikawa put the exam first, so Hachiware trains alone. Chiikawa’s exam days continue in the Weeding Exam Arc.
- As the training goes on, Rakko makes Hachiware an offer, and Hachiware, writing down things to do and too nervous to settle, faces the day of going on a tobatsu side by side with Rakko for the first time. That is the climax of this arc.
- We stop there. How that day goes is best found in the comic or the anime.
What do “Gekokujo,” “Sensei” and “tobatsu” mean here?
“Gekokujo” (下克上) is a Japanese word for those below overthrowing those above, and here it is the name of the online game the two play. “Sensei” is what Chiikawa and Hachiware call Rakko.
- Tobatsu (討伐) is one of the jobs Chiikawa and friends do to make a living: fighting dangerous creatures, which pays well because it is risky.
- On the official movie site, Rakko is introduced as the No. 1 ranker in the tobatsu rankings. The game’s ranking and the tobatsu ranking are separate things.
- Rakko’s official name is just “Rakko.” Because “Sensei” appears in the anime titles of this arc, fans also call it “Rakko Sensei.”
